Team Building for the 2010-11 School Year
Earlier this week, attendees of the New Principals' and Assistant Principals' Workshop learned new team building exercises to use with staff this fall. Take a look at some of the other professional development opportunities available to help kick-start the school year!

AWSP Highlights

  • Flag Lowering Tuesday, Aug. 3
Governor Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington State agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Tuesday, August 3, in memory of U. S. Army First Lieutenant Robert N. Bennedsen, 25, of Vashon Island, who died July 18 in Afghanistan. Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Tuesday, or first thing Wednesday morning, August 4.

  • Semifinalists Announced for Race to the Top
The U.S. Dept. of Education has announced its list of semifinalists for Race to the Top -- and Washington state is not on it. "Today’s news does not mean the end of meaningful education reform in Washington," say Gov. Chris Gregoire, Supt. Randy Dorn and State Board of Education Chair Jeff Vincent in joint a statement.

  • Call for Presenters: The 2011 Assistant Principals' Leadership Conference
AWSP is seeking presenters for the 2011 Assistant Principals' Leadership Conference, taking place Feb. 9-11 in the Seattle area. Proposals are due by 4:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3.

  • Energize Your Student Leaders for the Start of the School Year!
Spaces are still available for school delegations to attend the popular Cascade Middle Level Summer Leadership Camp, happening Aug. 13-16 at the Cispus Learning Center in Randle. A separate adviser workshop experience will also be available.
