Professional Development

AWSP Intern Membership

Open to those who are pursuing a career in administration and are working to obtain their principal credentials.

What an exciting time to consider becoming a building administrator! With the pressures of ever-increasing expectations upon schools and students, as well as budget shortfalls, one might question the wisdom of this plan of action. Let us assure you that you join a group of dedicated professionals who have faced difficult challenges before and still march on, trying to protect and enhance that which is best in teaching and learning. It is a time in which characteristics such as commitment, flexibility, cooperation and leadership will allow principals and assistant principals to stand tall and do what is best for students.

One of AWSP's primary goals as a professional association is to encourage and support talented educators who choose to go into school administration. Given the turnover we've seen in school administrators, it is more critical than ever to have the next generation well-prepared to take up the torch. As the only professional association that focuses on the needs and interests of principals and assistant principals, we serve more than 97 percent of the principals and assistant principals in Washington state. Your participation as an intern member will provide you the same access to workshops, professional development and publications that are available to practicing principals. Specific advantages to you through this intern membership include:

  • Receipt of AWSP's print and electronic publications
  • Online news and resources, including "Members Only" content and access to hundreds of employment listings
  • Workshops focused on the specific leadership needs of interns
  • 50 percent reduction of registration fee for AWSP conferences:

- The Principals' Conference (fall)

- Assistant Principals' Leadership Conference (winter)

- AWSP/WASA Summer Conference (late June)

  • Reduced rates on most AWSP professional development workshops
  • Opportunities for networking with other professionals throughout the state
  • Staff assistance when questions arise
