AWSP Leadership
AWSP
Board of Directors
AWSP is overseen by a 27-member board of directors, including the
Association president, president-elect and past president; the component
board presidents and officers; AWSP executive staff; and liaisons from
other K-12 education agencies and associations. The position of
AWSP president rotates among elementary, middle and high school
component boards. Board meetings are held quarterly around the
state.
Washington
School Principals' Education Foundation (WSPEF) Board of
Directors
In 1982, AWSP created a non-profit foundation, the Washington School
Principals' Education Foundation. This foundation is responsible for
oversight of all student leadership activities, the outdoor learning
centers and professional development services. Like AWSP, the WSPEF is
governed by a board of directors, comprised of both active and
retired principals. WSPEF board meetings are held quarterly around the
state.
2010-13 AWSP Strategic Plan
Components
AWSP includes three separate component groups, dedicated to the needs
of the elementary, middle and high school principalship. Each component
group is comprised of practicing principals and assistant principals,
and each is governed by its own board of directors. These component
groups represent members by region and leagues all across
Washington state. Members are encouraged to contact their component
board representatives about any concerns or issues they would like
to see addressed by AWSP.
Each component board member is elected by the membership of
each level (elementary, middle or high school). Component board
meetings are held quarterly around the state, often in conjunction
with AWSP and WSPEF board meetings.

AWSP Committees and Advisory Boards
AWSP encourages all members to take an active role in the Association.
One way to do this is through AWSP’s joint and standing committees
on subjects ranging from professional development to student leadership
and legislative policy.
AWSP’s Olympia office includes a mix of 22 professional and
administrative employees. Our senior staff bring their own experiences
as practicing principals to their roles within the Association. Support
staff is subdivided into several functional areas, including
accreditation, administration, accounting, governmental relations,
principal leadership development, professional development, membership,
meeting planning and arrangements, printing/graphic design and student
leadership.
