Curriculum Guide for Outdoor Education—The Chewelah Peak ExperienceThe Chewelah Peak Experience is a curriculum guide designed for use at the Learning Center or in the classroom. It contains more than 75 lessons in a format that allows teachers to pick and choose lessons based on the structure of their own camp or classroom activity. Lessons are arranged by topic, such as outdoor behavior, animals, plants, trail building, outdoor survival, winter ecology and many more. Each lesson is tied to the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR) for the state of Washington and each EALR is clearly referenced. Make Your Science Training Come Alive!
Chewelah Peak Learning Center has many of the supplies needed for each lesson plan; a small re-stocking fee may apply for some course supplies. The Chewelah Peak Experience book contains a new 'field trip' section that offers field trip ideas schools can schedule before, during or after their science camp. The initial Chewelah Peak Experience lesson plans were written by a group of 10 Washington state teachers who utilized the Learning Center regularly. The guide was written to meet the needs of educators who use the facility and are interested in engaging students in outdoor education in their own schoolyard. New lessons are added as they are developed. View the Table of Contents to see the current list of courses. Individual copies of The Chewelah Peak Experience are $15.
