2010 AWSP/WASA Summer
Conference
OLYMPIA—Representatives
from the Association of Washington School
Principals (AWSP) and the Washington Association of School
Administrators (WASA) will co-host their annual Summer
Conference for school principals, superintendents and school district
administrators Sunday, June 27 through Tuesday, June 29 at the Spokane
Convention Center.

This year’s keynote sessions (open to conference
attendees only) include:
- Sunday, June 27, 6:15 p.m. – 8 p.m. —
Writer/Leadership Expert John Zenger
John H. “Jack” Zenger is the cofounder and CEO of
Zenger Folkman, which provides leadership development programs for
organizational effectiveness.
- Monday, June 28, 8:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. — Poverty
Expert Donna Beegle
An expert on students in poverty, Dr. Donna Beegle went from
being a homeless, single mother of two to earning an Ed.D. in
educational leadership.
- Tuesday, June 29, 10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. —
Writer/Poet Sapphire
Sapphire is the author of The New York Times
bestseller Push, recently adapted for the Academy
Award–winning film, Precious. She has taught at the State
University of New York at Purchase, Trinity College and the
Writer’s Voice in New York City.
Also featured this year will be a breakout session (Monday,
June 28, 1:45 – 4:30 p.m.) on a new resource for
middle-school leadership teams and teachers: Success at the Core:
Equipping Leadership Teams to Guide Instructional Improvement. Success at the
Core was created by the Education Development Center (EDC) and
Vulcan Productions, a Seattle-based award-winning film company, with
help from Washington state teachers and administrators. The web-based
toolkit includes 47 documentary style videos and materials designed to
help leadership teams promote quality instruction in the classroom to
improve student outcomes.
