Publications

AWSP publishes an array of print and electronic publications that our members receive as a benefit of their membership. Click on one of the publications below to view additional details about each publication, including previous issues, submission guidelines and advertising information.

The Principal News

The Principal News is the official print publication of AWSP. This award-winning, quarterly magazine features articles written by principals and other leaders in the K-12 policy arena on a variety of topics central to the principalship. Articles focus on current topics in K-12 education and highlight resources principals can use to affect change in their schools.

Principal Matters

This semi-monthly e-newsletter provides members with quick and easy access to the latest news and information affecting the principalship. Principal Matters is published the first and third Wednesday of each month during the school year.

Fast Forward

Members of AWSP can stay current on the latest professional development opportunities through this semi-monthly e-newsletter. In addition to updates on AWSP conferences and workshops, Fast Forward also gives members a heads up on programs, workshops and leadership events geared just for students. Fast Forward is published the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Principal Leadership in a Performance-Based School (Final version coming soon!)

Since the establishment of state standards in 1992, a significant shift has taken place—a shift that has required the evolution of new school cultures, the understanding of new roles for teachers, and the development of new student accountability performance standards measured outside of the classroom. Pivotal to the success of this shift, which continues today in schools across Washington state, is a new type of principal leadership. AWSP assembled a task force to analyze this new leadership and create a new set of principal responsibilities to match it. A product of the task force, this document is designed to show the interrelationship between these responsibilities and district policies and practices.
