Diversity Task Force
The AWSP Diversity Task Force is an advisory team
of practicing principals and assistant principals from around the state
of Washington. In 2005, AWSP revised its five-year strategic plan to
include a specific goal about diversity and cultural competence (Goal
4). One target objective of this goal was to create a diversity team to
explore what exists and create recommendations for the Association. The
team first met in 2006 and continues to meet at various times throughout
the school year.
The Task Force’s mission is based
upon the objectives of the Strategic Plan, Goal 4:
- Collaborate with organizations and individuals to increase the
diversity of the principal population
- Increase the percentage of minority population on committees in
leadership positions of AWSP
- Infuse the topic of cultural competence into pre-service and
in-service training for principals
