Principal's Handbook

Media Relations Training for Principals

Principals are frequently the first to respond to the media in the event of a crisis or an emergency.  But not every principal feels comfortable working with the press or has the training to do so. That's why AWSP offers its members free media consulting/media training to help administrators better manage situations involving the press.  AWSP's consulting will:

  • Help you better understand the world of print and electronic journalism
  • Prepare you for print and electronic (TV, radio) interviews
  • Provide strategic advice in crisis situations or in advance of events that will draw media scrutiny
  • Offer support on talking points and development of key messages
  • Collaborate with your district communications officer or district office
  • Work with you on developing strategies to reach key media contacts in your community

To learn more about training opportunities, contact Jocelyn McCabe, AWSP's director of communiations at 360.357.7951 or e-mail her at jocelyn@awsp.org.
