NAAS Annual School Update Report and Three-year Oral Progress Report Requirements

Welcome to the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools' (NAAS) reporting! There were several significant changes to the annual reporting process and the NAAS Core Standards for Accreditation made last year.

What changed?

  • Washington state members no longer have to complete the traditional annual report.
Member schools are required to complete an oral progress report, which will be given to a panel of school administrators and NAAS consultants and commissioners in the third year of their six-year cycle. The oral progress report is the instrument NAAS uses to monitor the continuous progress of your school improvement plan (SIP) while meeting common regional and national accreditation standards. Member schools will be notified by their consultant of oral report dates.
  • Annual School Update Form
All NAAS member schools are also required to fill out an electronic Annual School Update Form,
which is due to the NAAS Washington state office by Oct. 15, 2007.

  • Core Standards for Accreditation
The NAAS Core Standards for Accreditation have been changed from eleven standards to eight.
    Review the new standards

  • Six-Year Site Visit (SIP) Requirement
The six-year site visitation (SIP) requirement remains in place.

Oral Progress Report

The traditional annual report is no longer required, but in its place is a requirement for schools during the third year of their six year cycle to do an oral progress report with other regional schools.

We are requesting the principal do a 30-minute presentation on:

  1. How you meet Standards I-VIII and how you are not meeting them.
  2. Report on progress in meeting Standard VIII (SIP) including overview of highlights/barriers for each goal.
  3. Discussion with peers on overall efforts of your school to enhance student learning tying in accreditation standards to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) data indicators.

The oral progress report will determine your accreditation status for the remaining three years of the accreditation cycle. Your peers will help determine this status and you will help determine their progress report presentation.

The annual report changes are the result of input from principals in order to create a more “value” added aspect to accreditation. Our goal is to hold these presentations in regional locations with four to six schools facilitated by that region’s NAAS consultant.
