National Association of Student Councils Conference & Application deadline January 29 |
Each year Washington
State sends a delegation of 35 top student leaders to the
National Association of Student Councils Conference (NASC). The 2010
conference will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, with the pre-trip
taking place in the greater Chicago area. Cost of the trip is $1,600
with a registration deadline of February
19. Priority is given to students recommended by their school as
outstanding leaders, members of the graduating class of 2011 & 2012,
members of the 2010 WASC Conference planning committee and current WASC
Board representatives. The theme for the 2010 conference held at Center Grove High is "Start the Engines of Leadership." Small Group Workshop Presenters We are currently seeking quality applications for Small Group Workshop presenters at the National Association of Student Councils Conference. NASC counts on Washington to send some of the best workshops presented at the conference. If you have an outstanding junior with experience teaching a workshop at the WASC Conference or at a regional or local association event please encourage them to apply. Deadline for Small Group Workshop Applications is January 29. |

Sophomore from Eastern Washington for Student Representative
to State Board of Education |
The Washington
Association of Student Councils (WASC) is seeking a high school
sophomore from Eastern Washington to serve a two-year term as a
representative to the State Board of Education. The student would also
serve on the executive board of WASC. This position requires an
articulate student who is able to listen, observe and provide input on
issues regarding educational policy in Washington state. Successful
candidates should have an interest in educational issues and must be
willing to commit to a rigorous meeting schedule. The meetings of the
State Board of Education and the WASC Board will require that the
selected student miss approximately 15 days during each school year. It
is essential that a student seeking this position have the support of
their parents and their school administration |

| GEAR UP support programs Information |
In the spring of 2008, Washington Student
Leadership served seven of the 37 schools in Washington with GEAR UP
grants. A successful match was experienced between the Washington
Student Leadership curriculum and the GEAR UP program. In addition,
AWSP's Cispus and Chewelah Peak learning centers and their challenge
course facilities were incorporated into some of the GEAR UP programs.
To better serve all of the GEAR UP grant schools, Washington Student
Leadership has developed three program offerings. Each program is based
around the cornerstone concepts of know yourself, know your options and
know how to work with others. |

Raising Student |
Raising Student Voice & Participation (RSVP) is a student engagement program sponsored by the National Association of Student Councils and the national Association of Secondary School Principals. The RSVP process uses democratic dialogue to give students a chance to speak out and take action school improvement and community issues. Washington State is one of ten states selected to pilot the program during the 2006-07 school year. |

The Middle Level Regionals Leadership
Conference began in 1992 and now annually serves more
than 1,800 students and advisers. Middle Level Regionals are one
day leadership workshops designed to introduce younger students to the
world of student government, excite potential leaders to the
possibilities of serving others and energize a group of ASB Officers for
the end of the year. Each year host sites around the state open their
doors to serve schools. Washington Student Leadership is a program of
the Association of Washington School Principals. |

Summer Camp Staff |
Each summer Washington Student Leadership serves over 3,000 students and advisers through 15 summer camps at both the Cispus and Chewelah Peak Learning Centers. There are 8 high school leadership camps, 4 middle level leadership camps and 3 CheerLeadership camps. More than 300 volunteers serve on camp staffs. |
