Gary Kipp

Gary Kipp joined AWSP as executive director in September 2003 after nearly 30 years as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. The majority of his time in the principalship was focused at the high school level, where he spent 20 years leading Mark Morris High School (Longview SD). Before that, he served as assistant principal at Cascade and Monticello middle schools, also in Longview. Before transitioning to AWSP, he also served as an assistant superintendent for Evergreen Public Schools in Vancouver. Gary holds a master’s in educational administration from the University of Washington, although his true loyalties lie with his undergraduate alma mater Washington State University. Gary graduated from Ballard High School (Seattle PS). He and his wife, Sue, live in Olympia. They have two adult children and five grandchildren.


Scott Seaman

Scott Seaman joined AWSP in July 2013. Scott was a teacher, coach and principal for 19 years. He spent 12 of those years as Principal at Tumwater High School. Scott’s career started as a Spanish teacher and soccer coach at Capital High School in Olympia. He then moved to neighboring Tumwater School District and became the Assistant Principal at Tumwater High School for three years before taking over the principalship. Scott graduated from Olympia High School in 1989.  He then went on to play soccer and start his undergraduate work at Oregon State University. After transferring to Washington State University, he graduated with a degree in Spanish and a minor in English.  He later attended Seattle University where he earned his Masters in School Administration. Scott later returned to WSU to earn his superintendent credentials and is currently a member of UW’s Leadership For Learning doctoral cohort. Scott’s wife, Shelley, and their two kids and yellow Labrador live in Olympia.

Robyn Davis

Robyn Davis joined AWSP in July 2015 after giving up her position as a principal to conduct professional development around principal evaluation, STEM, and other key issues in education for the 2015–2016 school year. Prior to accepting the position, Robyn has been the principal at Pasadena Park Elementary in the West Valley School District (#363) for the previous eight years. She also spent four years in the district as an assistant principal. Robyn has 21 years of diverse teaching experience in Montana, Washington, ESD 101 and ESD 113, the Nevada Department of Education, and in Japan for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools. In addition to her time teaching in the classroom and leading at the building level, she’s spent lots of time doing professional development with the ESDs. She earned both her B.S. in Education and her M.S. in Special Education from Montana State University - Billings. She holds a P–3 endorsement and her administrative endorsement. Robyn and her husband, Mike, have two labradors.

Marty Fortin

Learning Centers Director

As director of the outdoor learning centers since 1991, Marty works with the onsite managers to supervise daily operations, including maintenance, personnel, curriculum, finance and marketing. Since 1998, he has developed curriculum and facilitated ASB Rules workshops in cooperation with the State Auditor’s office. He spent 16 years as a science teacher, coach and activities administrator. During his long career, he has won many honors, including the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association’s Joe Babbitt Award for his contributions to the sport of wrestling, and the President’s Award from the Environmental Education Association of Washington. Marty graduated from Washington State University in 1975, received his standard teaching certificate through Central Washington University and is an alumnus of Yelm High School. In his spare time, he serves as executive director of the White Pass Education Foundation in East Lewis County, and he volunteers as Cub Master for Randle Pack 94.

Susan Fortin

Susan Fortin joined the student leadership division of AWSP in 1991. Her professional teaching career included six years at Willapa Valley Jr/Sr High (Willapa Valley SD) and seven years at Rainier Secondary (Rainier SD). Teaching in small schools, advising multiple clubs and coaching prepared her for the fast-paced, multi-faceted student programs she currently directs at AWSP. After graduating from Franklin Pierce High School (Franklin Pierce SD), Susan earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Western Washington University and a teaching certificate from Central Washington University. School administration was to be her next career step, but the opportunity to lead programs for AWSP intervened, providing a unique and creative challenge. She has no regrets about her decision. Susan and her husband Marty live and work in Randle. Their daughter Kate is a student at The Evergreen State College.

Kurt Hatch

Director of Principal Support, Middle Level Programs, and Diversity & Equity

Kurt joined AWSP after 22 years in the field, including 13 as a school leader. Most recently the Principal at Mt. View Elementary in the North Thurston School District, Kurt has also served as a Principal in University Place, Assistant Principal in Kent, Instructional Coach in Puyallup, teacher-leader in Shanghai and has taught a variety of grade levels. A graduate of Curtis High School and Washington State University, Kurt completed City University’s Master’s in Teaching certification program and holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Western Washington University’s Woodring College of Education. Kurt’s wife, Nicole, is a Literacy Coach in the Olympia School District and their two daughters attend Washington Middle School and Centennial Elementary. Kurt enjoys exploring the Northwest with family and friends, traveling, sports and jazz music.

Kim Marquette joined AWSP in August 2014 after working the last 25 years for the Tumwater School District. The last 14 years she worked as the Administrative/Athletic Secretary at Tumwater High School. Kim graduated from Tumwater High School and attended Olympia Technical Community College.She enjoys spending time with her family, scrapbooking and hanging out at her family cabin. She and her husband, Jim, live in Tumwater. They have three married children and one grandson, Aiden.

David Morrill

David spent the last six years working at OSPI. During that time, he had the opportunity to work on finance reform during the Basic Education Finance Task Force, worked to support the Quality Education Council, and most recently, the Teacher and Principal Evaluation Project. At AWSP, David leads the development of new media and the website. A product of North Thurston Public Schools and graduate of Western Washington University, David grew up playing ice hockey (his mom is Canadian) and started playing tennis in high school. In his free time, David is either hanging out with his fiancé Taylor, on a tennis court somewhere, or visiting his nephew in California. He also enjoys concerts, sporting events, and trips to Whistler.

Ron Sisson

Ron Sisson is joining AWSP after serving for 12 years as a principal in the North Thurston Public Schools. He was the principal at Seven Oaks Elementary for 10 years and most recently at Lakes Elementary. Prior to the principalship, Ron taught 6th grade and 7th and 8th grade math and science. He graduated from North Thurston High School in Lacey, Washington. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health from Central Washington University and a Masters Degree in Education Leadership from City University. Ron and his high school sweetheart, Heather, have two children. A son, currently serving in the United States Air Force, a daughter who attends Whitman College, and two black labs. He enjoys skiing, fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Roz Thompson

Roz Thompson joined AWSP in June 2017 as the Director of Government Relations and Advocacy. She continues her work as a state instructional framework specialist for the Danielson Framework. Prior to joining AWSP, Roz worked in the Tumwater School District, most recently as a Curriculum Supervisor and the Professional Development Coordinator. She also worked as a teacher-librarian at both the high school and elementary levels while serving as the legislative liaison for the Washington Library Media Association from 2007–2012, and taught high school English, math, and social studies. Roz and her husband, Jon, both have their undergraduate degrees in history from Whitman College and earned their graduate degrees from the University of Washington. Roz earned her principal certification from Seattle Pacific University. She and Jon live in Olympia and have two boys, Owen (a sophomore at Washington State University) and Drew (a junior at Olympia High School).

Annalee Braley joined AWSP in 1989 as the production room coordinator running the offset press and processing membership mailings. Since then, she has worked with various programs of AWSP including Student Leadership programs, conference planning, middle level (AWMLP) board of directors, professional services support, and the Chewelah Peak Learning Center. She now manages the membership database, accounts receivable, website content and continues to coordinate middle level programs and the AWMLP Board. Annalee graduated from North Thurston High School (North Thurston PS) and the New Market Skills Center in 1988. Annalee and her husband, Troy, live in Rainier with their daughter Crystal.

Macy joined AWSP in March 2015. She has seven years of business experience with an emphasis in marketing and communications. At AWSP, she will coordinate both the State Funded Intern Program and all of our Professional Development. Macy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern in June of 2008 with a major in Business Administration/Marketing. Macy and her husband, Skyler, live in Rochester and have a 2 year old daughter, Hailey. As a family they enjoy camping, fishing and spending time at the beach.


Caroline Brumfield

Caroline joined AWSP in Dec. 2007 after graduating from Pacific Lutheran University with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. She creates marketing materials for AWSP’s conferences and workshops, crafts emails to members, and manages AWSP’s Washington Principal magazine and Principal Matters e-newsletter. Caroline grew up in Santa Monica, Calif., and graduated from Santa Monica High School. Outside of work, she enjoys arts and crafts, her two chihuahuas, and helping lead her church’s middle/high school youth group. Caroline and her husband, AJ, have a 2-year-old son, Lincoln, and a baby girl on the way in 2015.

Kerry Mill

Kerry Mill joined AWSP in December, 2012. Before joining AWSP, Kerry worked with children in a variety of settings, including the juvenile justice system, drug and alcohol counseling in middle and high school, and in a number of positions at Littlerock Elementary and other schools in the Tumwater SD. She graduated from Capital High School (Olympia SD), and Centralia Community College. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University in sociology, with a minor in psychology. Kerry and her husband, Shawn, live in Olympia and have four grown children. She enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, gardening, knitting and reading.

Beth Schultz

Beth Schultz joined AWSP in November 2009. She loves working part-time so she can be home with her three children. She graduated from Olympia High School (Olympia SD) and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Washington State University. Her hobbies include running, skiing and anything involving her kids.

Cris Sippel

Cris Sippel joined AWSP in December 2006. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Washington State University and has a history rich in working within public schools and social services environments. When not in the office, Cris spends her time raising her son, exploring photography and art in all its glorious forms, and creating vegan delicacies.

Rick Stacy

Financial Services and Information Technology Coordinator

Rick joined AWSP in April 1995, after working at a small accounting firm in Olympia. He spends most of his time with the finances of AWSP and its foundation. Part of this work includes vendor and banking relations, filing state and federal tax forms, and getting member reimbursements processed quickly. Grants and independent consultant contracts are also part of Rick’s responsibilities. In the technology field, Rick keeps desktop and server software up to snuff. This includes the AWSP membership management program as well as the general ledger program currently in use. Rick lives in Lacey and has one daughter and one grandson. He enjoys family time, folk and bluegrass festivals, traveling in the USA and creating some tasty dishes on his Big Green Egg smoker.

Emily Tate joined AWSP in August 2017 after working as a barista. She graduated from Timberline High School and earned her associates at South Puget Sound Community College. She plans to transfer to a university to earn a degree. In her free time, Emily enjoys spending time with her fiancé Kole, going to sporting events, traveling, and shopping.
