As director of the outdoor learning centers since 1991, Marty works with the onsite managers to supervise daily operations, including maintenance, personnel, curriculum, finance and marketing. Since 1998, he has developed curriculum and facilitated ASB Rules workshops in cooperation with the State Auditor's office. He spent 16 years as a science teacher, coach and activities administrator. During his long career, he has won many honors, including the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association’s Joe Babbitt Award for his contributions to the sport of wrestling, and the President's Award from the Environmental Education Association of Washington. Marty graduated from Washington State University in 1975, received his standard teaching certificate through Central Washington University and is an alumnus of Yelm High School.
In his spare time, he serves as executive director of the White Pass Education Foundation in East Lewis County, and he volunteers as Cub Master for Randle Pack 94.
