Job Posting: AWSP Director of Principal Support and Elementary Programs

AWSP is now accepting applications for the position of Director of Principal Support and Elementary Programs. The chosen candidate will work with the Executive Director and AWSP Board in fulfilling board policy and direction. In collaboration with AWSP’s executive team of directors, this full-time position (230 days) will focus primarily on providing programs and support for principal leadership development and member services. In addition, this role includes staff support for the Elementary School Principals of Washington (ESPAW) Board.


  • Contribute to the coordination and delivery of professional development workshop offerings and conference programs.
  • Act as liaison and program coordinator for the Elementary School Principals Association of Washington (ESPAW) component board, and oversee the board’s budget.
  • Provide assistance with the Association’s human resources department.
  • Collaborate with Association business partners on support for AWSP conferences, events, and initiatives.
  • Secure, manage, and report on grants supporting Association activities.
  • Act as staff liaison with OSPI, State Board of Education and other agencies, as appropriate.
  • Provide support for the Association’s Strategic Plan, with an emphasis on strategic plan goal #2, principal leadership development.
  • Communicate effectively before a wide variety of groups.
  • Advocate on behalf of the AWSP legislative platform.
  • Work to sustain the positive image of AWSP and ESPAW.
  • Understand and apply educational law and contractual provisions for the purpose of responding to member requests for assistance.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the AWSP Executive Director.

Professional Qualifications and Characteristics

Applicants for the position of AWSP Director of Principal Support and Elementary Programs with the following professional qualifications and characteristics will be given the highest consideration:

  • Demonstrated commitment to our state’s students and to the importance of the principal as a performance-based educational leader.
  • Successful performance as a school administrator, including experience as a school principal, preferably in Washington state.
  • Successful performance in a position responsible for staff development in Washington State.
  • Ability to manage program finances, grants funds, and identify revenue generators for conferences and events.
  • Ability to identify and analyze key educational issues in relation to the Association mission, goals and ethical standards.
  • Exhibits high ethical standards, commitment, strong communication and organizational skills, accessibility, active listening abilities and a good sense of humor.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with significant authors and effective presenters in the field of education and learning, and a deep understanding of the AWSP Leadership Framework.
  • Commitment to partnering with the Association staff to fulfill its administrative and service responsibilities to the membership.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
