Executive Team

Scott Seaman


Executive Director

Scott joined us in the fall of 2013 after serving as the principal at Tumwater High School. Scott transitioned to our Executive Director in July 2018. 


  • Manages the association.
  • Strengthens and develops strategic partnerships.
  • Runs the AWSP/WSPEF Boards.
  • Coordinates with our two national associations.

Gary Kipp

Gary Kipp, Executive Director

Special Projects

Gary served as our Executive Director from 2003 through June 2018. He retires in August of 2018, but he'll stick around on a part-time basis to help complete some projects and lend his expertise.


  • Leading a refresh of the AWSP Leadership Framework and the User's Guide.

Greg Barker


Student Leadership Associate Director

Greg will be taking over the student leadership division of AWSP in the Summer of 2019 after shadowing Susan Fortin for a year. Prior to AWSP he has worked with activities and ASB since 1992 with 12 years in Marysville School district, 2 years at Auburn Riverside High, and the last 12 in the Snohomish school district.


  • Serves in a transitional role to assume directorship of AWSL in July 2019.
  • Provides professional learning to principals, advisers and students in the area of ASB Finance and Regulations. 

Marty Fortin


Learning Centers Director

As director of the outdoor learning centers since 1991, Marty works with the onsite managers to supervise daily operations, including maintenance, personnel, curriculum, finance and marketing. 


  • Oversees the Cispus and Chewelah Peak Learning Centers.
  • ASB Rules workshops with cooperation from the State Auditor's office.

Susan Fortin


Student Leadership Director

Susan Fortin joined the student leadership division of AWSP in 1991. She taught for six years at Willapa Valley Jr/Sr High (Willapa Valley SD) and seven years at Rainier Secondary (Rainier SD).


  • Directs the work of the Association of Washington Student Leaders. 
  • Aligns student leadership activities with the AWSP Leadership Framework. 
  • Manages all student leadership camps and AWSL programming.
  • Liaison between AWSP and AWSL. Serves as AWSL repressentative to Ready Washington.

Scott Friedman


Associate Director 

Scott Friedman joined AWSP in July of 2018 after 25 years as a teacher, coach, school, and district administrator.  He began his educational career at Ridgetop Junior High is Silverdale as a teacher and coach.  


  • High school programs, including the Washington Association of Secondary School Principals board.
  • Supports northeast Washington.
  • Professional learning.
  • Interstate collaboration.

Kurt Hatch


Associate Director

Kurt joined AWSP after 22 years in the field, including 13 as a school leader. Prior to AWSP, Kurt was a principal in the North Thurston and in University Place school districts. He also served as an assistant principal in Kent.


  • Directs our diversity and equity work, including our Diversity and Equity Committee. 
  • Manages the Association of Washington Middle Level Principals (AWMLP) board.
  • Program Coordinator for the state-funded intern grant. Oversees intern programs.
  • AWSP liaison for university programs, WCEAP, EOGOAC and PESB.
  • Leads the Aspiring School Leaders Network (ASLN)

Kim Marquette


Executive Assistant & Event Planning

Kim Marquette joined AWSP in August 2014 after working the last 25 years for the Tumwater School District. The last 14 years she worked as the Administrative/Athletic Secretary at Tumwater High School. 


  • Supports the executive director and manages our master calendar.
  • Supports the AWSP and WSPEF boards.
  • Provides HR support, including maintaining files and contracts, managing benefits, and managing leave.
  • Primary liaison between AWSP and venue staff for conferences and workshops.
  • Main contact for business partnerships.

David Morrill

David Morrill photo

Communications & Technology Director

David joined AWSP in December 2013 after working for OSPI. He worked on the Basic Education Finance Task Force and started on the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Program in 2010.


  • All forms of digital media, including the website, video production, staff photography, podcasting, Principal Matters, and social media.
  • Managing editor of Washington Principal magazine.
  • Public relations and external communications.
  • Technology roadmap, support, and Summer Conference app.
  • Assists with Legislative Update and advocacy, marketing, and professional learning.

Andi Mounts


Finance Director

Andi joined us in January 2019 from the Port of Olympia. She has a rich accounting and finance background. In her short time at AWSP, she's worked on cleaning up and simplifying our finances and systems. 


  • Handles day-to-day bookkeeping.
  • Processes account payables for the Association of Washington Student Leaders and the Washington State Leadership Academy.
  • Monitors AWSP/WSPEF investments and assets.
  • Monitors all contracts and grants.

Roz Thompson


Government Relations & Advocacy Director

Roz joined AWSP in June 2017. She is a state Danielson Framework specialist. She came from the Tumwater School District, where she was a Curriculum Supervisor and Professional Development Coordinator.


  • Oversees all governmental relations work.
  • Legislation committee.
  • Serves as PAC Executive Secretary. 
  • Writes/ oversees production of Legislative update. 

Ron Sisson


Associate Director

Ron Sisson joined AWSP after serving for 12 years as a principal in the North Thurston Public Schools. He was the principal at Seven Oaks Elementary for 10 years and most recently at Lakes Elementary. 


  • Elementary programs, including Elementary School Principals Association of Washington board. 
  • Professional Learning.
  • Oversees member services.
  • Human resources.
  • Oversees Leadership Framework.
  • Coaching and mentoring.

Gina Yonts


Associate Director 

Gina is joining AWSP the summer of 2018. She has served in education the past 27 years as a classroom teacher, Middle School Assistant and Lead Principal, as well as an Elementary Principal in the Walla Walla School District.


  • Professional learning.
  • Interstate collaboration.
  • Supports southeast Washington.
  • Mentor support.

Support Team

Keith Atchley



Keith comes to us from an accounting agency and has helped us through some transitions. He's been a great addition to our team since May 2018.


  • Handles day-to-day bookkeeping.
  • Processes account payables for the Association of Washington Student Leaders and the Washington State Leadership Academy.
  • Monitors AWSP/WSPEF investments and assets.
  • Monitors all contracts and grants.

Annalee Braley


Membership Coordinator

Annalee Braley joined AWSP in 1989 as the production room coordinator. Since then, she has worked with on Student Leadership programs, conference planning, AWMLP,  and professional services support.


  • Oversees all aspects of membership.
  • Manages all membership billing. 
  • Manages the AWSP ambassador program.
  • Member management database software lead.
  • Supports the Member Services Committee. 

Macy Bruhy


Member Support

Macy joined AWSP in March 2015. She has seven years of business experience with an emphasis in marketing and communications. Prior to her work at AWSP, Macy worked in marketing for several companies.


  • Supports professional learning events. 
  • Manages email marketing for professional learning.
  • Supports the Professional Learning Committee.
  • Manages the state-funded intern grant program.
  • Provides communications support.

Caroline Brumfield

Graphic Designer & Communications Specialist

Caroline joined AWSP in December 2007 after graduating from Pacific Lutheran University with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. She works Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8-4.


  • Designs all our public-facing content, both digital and print.
  • Manages ads for Washington Principal magazine and edits articles.
  • Works on Principal Matters newsletter. 
  • Supports the Summer Conference app.
  • Assists with communications, marketing, and professional learning materials.

Xenia Doualle

Digital Content Creator

Xenia joined AWSP in March 2019. A documentary filmmaker by trade, Xenia worked all over Europe before starting a successful wedding videography business here in the Pacific Northwest. She spent one year as a middle school teacher and has great artistic talents. She also loves her cat Valentine.

Kerry Mill

Member Support

Kerry Mill joined AWSP in December 2012. Before that, she worked in the juvenile justice system, drug and alcohol counseling in middle & high school, and for Littlerock Elementary and schools in the Tumwater School District.


  • Middle level program coordinator.
  • Payables and accounting support.
  • Assists in workshop registration and professional learning.

Beth Schultz


Member Support

Beth Schultz joined AWSP in November 2009. 


  • High school programs coordinator. 
  • Legislative committee. 
  • Assists in workshop registration and professional learning.

Cris Sippel

Cris Sippel joined AWSP in December 2006. They hold a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Washington State University and a master's degree in public administration from The Evergreen State College. 


  • Elementary programs coordinator.
