Inside AWSP

Advocacy Advisory Council

2018-19 Advocacy Committee group photo

The Advocacy Advisory Council serves as both liaison and resource to the AWSP Board on legislative matters. Members communicate with principals and assistant principals around the state on issues of concern, monitor legislative action, and assist with testimony as appropriate. Advisory Council members also identify and prioritize the association’s yearly Legislative Platform(PDF) for approval by the AWSP Board.

Providing a strong, proactive voice for principals in Olympia and Washington, D.C. is central to our legislative efforts. We focus on what’s best for students and support legislation that dismantles historically inequitable systems in our state. We work to support efforts that “Grow, Support, and Sustain” our school leaders in order to alleviate principal turnover.

The Advisory Council includes practicing principals and assistant principals from each grade level within each of the state’s nine Educational Service Districts. There are weekly Zoom meetings during the Legislative Session and monthly meetings in the interim.
